The One You Call On ™
Alyeska Online has joined a national partnership to give consumers the
themselves from rogue movers. The partnership is the first time Federal,
State and local officials, law enforcement agencies and industry and
consumer groups have come together to coordinate their efforts to prevent
moving fraud. The program is called,
“Protect Your Memories. Your
Money. Your Move.”

“Moving to a new home can be stressful enough, even under the best of
circumstances. Being taken advantage of by a rogue mover can make it
much more stressful. Alyeska Transportation Management Services Inc
pleased to join in this program to help consumers and legitimate movers
protect themselves against the small percentage of dishonest movers known
as rogue movers,” said Eddie A Roman, President/CEO of
Alyeska
Transportation Management Services Inc
.
Rogue movers typically offer low-ball estimates over the telephone or Web
without inspecting the consumer’s household goods. Once the goods are
moved, the mover holds them hostage while demanding more money before
he will unload them.

The legitimate moving industry knows that the best defense against these
practices is a well-informed consumer, which is why
Alyeska Online is proud
to join with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and
other organizations in this consumer education program. There are five
things consumers should do to avoid being taken advantage of by a rogue
mover:

Obtain several written estimates based on an actual on-site inspection;

• Check with local, State or Federal government agencies to make sure the
mover is registered and insured;

• Check the mover’s complaint history with local consumer advocacy groups
and moving industry associations;

• Don’t hire a mover based solely on the cheapest price; and

• Make sure the mover gives you a copy of the booklet
“Your Rights and
Responsibilities When You Move,” as required by Federal regulations when
you are moving State-to-State.

Consumers can also get valuable information by logging onto the partnership
Web site at
www.protectyourmove.gov. In addition to providing useful
consumer information, the site will help consumers link to other partners and
law enforcement Web sites for more additional information and resources.

Alyeska Online is committed to reducing moving fraud in the United States.
We know we can reduce the number of rogue moving victims by working
together to better educate the consumer on how to choose a reputable
mover and avoid the deceitful business practices of a dishonest or rogue
mover
